The #1 Mistake People Make When Building Websites

I know that all the gurus out there will tell you the amazing ways to start a blog and many of them provide the step by step tools to show you how. The issue is you may be a tech savvy genius with superior design skills and be able to write blogs so eloquent they make Shakespeare look like a church camp play. However, what happens when you just don’t have any passion for what you are writing what happens when you are simply writing this stuff because you think it will make you money. Not to mention what could happen if you don’t know a thing about the subject that you are writing about. In this article I am going to give you the tools to start a blog but, what will also do is try and help you find your passion to fuel the blog you are writing.

Not to mention what could happen if you don’t know a thing about the subject that you are writing about. In this article I am going to give you the tools to start a blog but, what will also do is try and help you find your passion to fuel the blog you are writing.

How To Pick a Niche for Your Blog

This is where I will tell you to seriously consider the journey you are about to embark on. If you pick a niche that you are not interested in, then you will fail. You can copy someone else that is not a problem but, if you are not passionate about the subject it will show very quickly. I would like to say that I guarantee that you will fail however some have succeeded because they just put in an intense amount of work and made it happen. Issue is that this is not the case for most people who aren’t willing to put in the work. That is why if you are passionate about a subject and you are very knowledgeable then it will be a better blog and fun for you to write. Your writing will almost seem to have a smile if that makes sense because you put so much love and effort into it. It is simple to find a niche, what interest you will interest others as well. I hate to tell you this, but your interests are not unique to you and birds of a feather, etc., etc. So, get a niche you are passionate about and drill down to figure out what you can do that no one else has done. For example, if I love car mechanic work. I don’t blog about general mechanics people will flee from your page like roaches in the kitchen light. Yes, I was once broke too! If you write about how to change an oxygen sensor on a 2008 Kia Optima with a 2.5L 4-cylinder engine, then you will pique interest and people will read. If you want to double down, then make a video that goes along with the blog. If you want to monetize include affiliate links for the tools you used to change the part. This is where a passionate niche will make you money because you will pour your heart and soul into it and in time you will simply succeed. Of course, at first it will be slow unless you are incredibly lucky, but this is where your passion for the subject will carry you through.

How Do I Pick A Domain Name?

It is not very hard to pick a domain name unless you are in a niche that is crowded then you can simply use your name. You’re now thinking who the hell is going to look up my name, that doesn’t matter. Why you ask because all the keywords in your blog titles will take care of the SEO for the site. If you don’t know what SEO means it stands for Search Engine Optimization. You will use keywords that will attract people to your website so even if your website is johnsmith.com it wont matter. Don’t kill yourself trying to find that one name that you think everyone will go to simply because its cool. Google will still rank it on page 50 billion. However, if you must find a cool name then you can use simple tools to help you with a name. A simple hack is to use synonyms or antonyms to make a name. If you have a dog website you could use canine, hound, mutt. You could also use an antonym like nokitties.com, catless.com, or felineforbidden.com. Another way to pick a name is to narrow your name to specifically what you want to blog about. If it is for dogs, you could pick k9collars.com or poochplates.com. Any one of these techniques can very easily help you pick a great name for your site. As I said before just make sure whatever the name is, it is something that you will be able to be passionate about. Something that you are knowledgeable about, then the name should come easy.

Should I Use Hosted or Private Servers

That is a very simple question to answer. If you are just starting a blog, then you would want to use a hosted server. The reason is you are simply not big enough or making enough to justify the cost. Once your blog takes off then you may decide to go to a private server or a more advanced hosting package. Especially if your blog has a store that goes along with it. Hosting companies like NAMECHEAP are inexpensive for a simple blog. Bluehost is also very good for hosting your blog and they have a great support staff also. I also like GoDaddy they just seem to be a little more expensive than the others, but they are like the Google for domain names. Now if are going to have a store that goes along with your blog you want to make sure that the hosting service will allow for this. Make sure that the service has the storage capacity to accommodate your store. There is nothing worse than getting your website up and ready then running out of storage space when you are adding items to the site. Yes, this has happened so be careful and do your homework. You could also use your own server and server farm however you are going to be the IT guy and the one that must repair or troubleshoot the problem. I am assuming you are not that person because you wouldn’t be reading this blog. If you are looking a Dell server right now be sure you are a server and network technician and have time to fix issues. If you are not, then stop looking NOW! Hosted service is the way to go take it from a guy that had a server farm the word hosted is synonymous with peace of mind. Just get a good service like NAMECHEAP this will help.

What Plugins are Great for Building Web Pages

If you blog use WordPress period, I am not going any further into this just use WordPress. It is the most user-friendly platform for blogger websites. I have worked with two site builder plugins that are really user friendly and easy to work with. I really like Elementor probably because I have worked with it for some time and I am used to it. I will tell you though that any plugin you use has a learning curve so take time to learn it. I also have used Astra, the great thing about Astra is now you can pick a template and it will install a website not just a page. So, you no longer must go page by page. You can install an Astra template do a few small modifications and you have a website in less than an hour. If you are interested in building a site using Elementor then you can get to YouTube and watch this video. Tyler did a great job showing you step by step how to build a great site. However, if you just don’t have any type of artistic skill and are worried your blog will look like a fifth grader built it, then you can use Fiverr or Upwork. You can find people on these sites that will build the site for you or simply make nice headers, banners, pictures, and designs. Plugins make it easier to build sites because you do not have to be able to write code like HTML or CSS. If you can write code, you can still use a plugin and put in your own custom CSS or HTML in the plugin. Most of the plugins will allow for that type of input if they don’t you may want to pick another plugin.

Great Ways To Monetize Your Website

Unless you just need a way to blow off steam or you are just hell bent on giving people your opinion you will want to monetize your site. How do you monetize your site? Well there are several ways to monetize your site. Depending on what your niche is about. Say you are into dogs, yes, I am a dog person. Cats are cool I am just allergic. On to what I was saying you have a dog website and you write a post about these new amazing leashes. Your options could be to purchase the leashes wholesale from say www.alibaba.com mark them up and sell them. You could go to a site like amazon.com become an associate find a great leash and use you affiliates link to sell for a commission. This will not make you a big commission, but it can get you started. You can also start and E-bay store or a Shopify store etc. You get the point there are many ways to sell the dog leashes once you get people to start clicking on the site. You can also sell ads on your site. Companies will start to pay you to advertise on your site once it is getting steady traffic. Say you are getting around a 1000 clicks per month, you can get a Google ad words account and get a piece of HTML code that you can place in your websites header and Google will runs ads on your site. The disadvantage is you will not have control over what they run so be careful. You really don’t want your competitors’ ads on your site duh! If you are looking for a great way to learn how to monetize your site, then got to my channel here. I have great videos on this subject, and I would have to write a very long blog to cover all of them. However, the videos will do a great job of supplying you with a general understanding. How To Have A Great Blog and Be a Great Blogger

This is where I am going to get into what others may not. Look it is very simple unless you don’t enjoy helping others and writing or making videos then you won’t be a great blogger/vlogger. It takes someone with a genuine desire to help others and to spread the passion that they have about a subject to others to make them feel like you truly care. People are great lie detectors they will see through your bull if you are not passionate about the subject. Now some people ask me what if I am passionate and my writing sucks. Well that doesn’t matter you should write all your blogs so that they are easy to read and spell checker is a great tool. If you need to you can also get a program like Grammarly to help as well.  You can also get dictation software so if your typing sucks you can speak into the computer mic and it will type what you say with all the appropriate punctuation. So, you can still have a great blog if you have a great idea or passion for giving people valuable information. If you are simply in it for the money and have no desire to help others, then don’t do it. There are millions of so-called gurus doing that. I also recommend that you really sit back and think to yourself do I have the time and dedication for this. It must be treated as a business and takes plenty of self-motivation to stay dedicated. You will not have a boss to push you, everything will be up to you and that can be very lonely sometimes. I really hope that if you are reading this article that you have that fire and passion for your niche, and you take this advice and write a great blog. The internet is an information highway and education is key to our future. School books are going to iPads more and more testing is going to computers. The future is in the internet so go and get your piece of it and share your passion with the world.
